Seedling: PART I (In Print)

An honest-to-god Appalachian zombie love story.

Seedling follows the story of Flora Black, an inquisitive high schooler, who is thrust into the unknown without ever leaving her home. As “The Bouts” start spreading among her friends and community (symptoms include dizziness & a voracious hunger), Flora hunts for answers. What is causing this strange new illness? Why is it spreading like wildfire throughout Appalachia? And how can it be stopped? Flora builds unlikely alliances along the way that help bring her closer to the all too horrifying truth.

Seedling is one part horror story, one part Appalachian love letter, one part #plantnerd encyclopedia, & one part commentary on the disposability of Appalachia by the outside world. (AKA all parts AMAZING.) It is for you if you’re into Spooky Season, Strong Female Role Models, Zombies, or Appalachian Speculative Fiction written by someone who actually lives in Appalachia.

…and a Content Warning: Seedling probably isn’t for you if you don’t like scary stories or if you are sensitive to pandemic-style illnesses these days. (We get it.)

Each book is illustrated & made with love by Emily Prentice at her home studio. Book covers are printed with Moab Entrada Natural Rag 300 paper & are 64 pages long. Part I includes Chapters 1-6, all previously released here at seedssuretogrow.com and WILL ALSO INCLUDE a never released Chapter 7 to complete Part I of what will become 3 total parts!
